Exercise-based Physiotherapy

What is a Physiotherapy exercise program?

A Physiotherapy exercise program is a structured rehabilitation plan designed by a Physiotherapist to help improve strength, mobility, movement control and confidence. At Tweak Health, we use Clinical Exercise to support people recovering from injury, managing pain, building tolerance for daily activity or progressing after surgery.

These sessions are not general fitness classes. Instead, your Physio tailors the program to your current presentation, goals and movement capacity so exercises can be progressed safely and practically over time.

Who may benefit from Clinical Exercise?

Clinical Exercise may be helpful for people working through back pain, neck pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, post-surgical rehabilitation, reduced confidence with movement, or a need for more guided strength and mobility work. Strength is gradually built over time through progressive overload.

Rehabilitation focus

How can Physiotherapy exercise programs help?

Our Physiotherapy exercise programs in Perth are designed to support safe, progressive rehabilitation. Depending on your presentation, your program may help with:

Improving mobility and movement confidence Useful when stiffness, fear of movement or reduced tolerance are limiting progress
Building strength for rehabilitation Especially when returning to daily tasks, work demands or general activity
Progressing after injury or surgery A structured way to rebuild tolerance, control and physical capacity
Supporting long-term strength and stability Helpful for people who need more guided, consistent exercise progression
Managing persistent aches and reduced conditioning With a program matched to your current tolerance rather than a generic class format
Guided return to activity A practical next step when you need more than a home exercise sheet

What should I expect at my first session?

Your first appointment starts with an assessment. Your Physiotherapist will review your symptoms, movement, goals and any barriers to progress, then build an individualised exercise plan suited to your current level.

If a Clinical Exercise program is appropriate, your Physio will explain your starting exercises, guide technique and progress the session according to your needs. The aim is to make the program clear, practical and realistic for your body, schedule and recovery stage.

Because sessions are kept small, there is more opportunity for supervision, adjustment and progression than in a general exercise class.

Common problems we may support alongside exercise rehabilitation

A Physiotherapy exercise program is often one part of a broader care plan. Depending on your presentation, your Physio may combine hands-on treatment, education and progressive exercise to support recovery.

FAQs

Physiotherapy Exercise Program FAQs

What might I feel after my first session?
It is common to feel some mild muscle soreness after your first session, especially if certain areas have not been challenged for a while. Sharp or worsening pain is not expected. If that happens, please contact the clinic.
How often should I book a session?
A common schedule is 1–3 sessions per week, depending on your goals, current presentation and recovery stage. Your Physio will guide the most appropriate starting frequency for you.
Is Clinical Exercise the same as a gym class?
No. These are physiotherapist-led rehabilitation sessions. Exercises are selected and adjusted according to your needs, symptoms, goals and movement capacity.
Can I use private health for Clinical Exercise Sessions?
Private health rebates may be available if your policy includes Physiotherapy cover, as sessions are run by a Physiotherapist.
What should I wear or bring?
Wear comfortable activewear that allows movement. A water bottle and towel are useful. Bare feet or grip socks are usually suitable depending on the session.
Are these sessions only for women?
No. Physiotherapy exercise programs may be suitable for a wide range of adults and are not limited by gender.
