Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Physiotherapy in Perth & Regional WA

These answers are general in nature and do not replace individual healthcare advice. Your Physiotherapist can assess your presentation and discuss options that may be suitable for your needs.

What do Physiotherapy services usually include?

Physiotherapy usually includes a discussion about your symptoms, health history, goals and daily activities, followed by a physical assessment where appropriate. Your plan may include education, hands-on treatment, exercise guidance, activity advice or progress tracking depending on your presentation.

When should I see a Physiotherapist?

You may consider seeing a Physiotherapist if pain, stiffness, weakness, reduced mobility or an injury is affecting work, sport, sleep, exercise or everyday tasks. A Physiotherapist can assess contributing factors and discuss suitable next steps.

Can Physiotherapy help with back pain, neck pain or sports injuries?

Physiotherapy may assist with many musculoskeletal presentations, including back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, ankle injuries and sport-related concerns. Suitability depends on your assessment, symptoms, health history and goals.

What happens at my first Physiotherapy appointment?

Your first appointment usually includes a conversation about your symptoms and goals, assessment of movement or strength where appropriate, and a discussion about management options. Your Physiotherapist may provide treatment, exercise advice, education or a plan for review.

How do I know whether I need Physiotherapy or Clinical Exercise?

Physiotherapy is often a suitable starting point when you have pain, injury, stiffness or a new concern that needs assessment. Clinical Exercise may be recommended when structured, supervised exercise is appropriate for your strength, mobility, balance, rehabilitation or ongoing management goals.

What is Strength & Balance Testing?

VALD Strength & Balance Testing uses ForceDecks and DynaMo equipment to provide objective information about strength, balance, movement control and side-to-side differences. Testing is guided by a Physiotherapist and may be used to establish a baseline, track progress or support rehabilitation and exercise planning.

Is dry needling used in Physiotherapy appointments?

Dry needling may be used by a trained Physiotherapist where it is appropriate for the individual presentation. Your Physiotherapist will explain the technique, discuss suitability, answer questions and obtain consent before using dry needling.

Do I need a referral to book Physiotherapy?

Most private Physiotherapy appointments do not require a referral. A referral or specific documentation may be needed for Medicare GPCCMP plans, workers’ compensation, motor vehicle injury claims, DVA, NDIS or third-party insurer arrangements.

Where are your Physiotherapy clinics located?

Tweak Health provides Physiotherapy at Mount Pleasant and Belmont in Perth, as well as Regional WA clinics in Newman, Wongan Hills and Koorda. Availability may vary by service, location and practitioner.
